2009 Annual Appeal
It’s time for our Annual Campaign. Please give your support today!
Dear Neighbor,
Once again, our annual campaign is upon us. The past year at the Southampton Cultural Center has been exciting, with many new programs added as a result of the generosity of our donors. Your support of the SCC benefits all of us, and here is why we ask you to give.
Your donation stays in the community. Every year we bring accomplished artists, emerging young performers, and talented instructors who share their gifts of music, theater, language and artistic expression. Our offerings keep people coming to Southampton Village year-round, making us an important part of the local economy.
100% of your donation goes directly to programming.
We strive to make the center a place of learning and enrichment for young people.
• The Peconic Youth Orchestra offers scholarships to students in need so that economic hardship needn’t be a barrier to artistic development.
• The re-imagined Student Artist Invitational will challenge high school students to earn an invitation to exhibit at the SCC while building a portfolio for college admissions.
• Isabella Rupp, an Emmy Nominated TV writer, director and Producer, will help students create an original TV-Webisode in the TV/Film Camp that debuts in December.
We offer a rich mix of education, exhibition and performance opportunities, open to all.
• Center Stage at the SCC – if you missed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, don’t miss what’s next. See our newsletter or website for details!
• Concerts in the Park – free outdoor live performances and summertime family fun.
• The Rising Stars Recital Series and the Southampton Cultural Center Chamber Series showcasing exceptional talent from the world of classical music.
• A Jazz Series – new and to come in the fall of 2010
• Classes on life drawing, acting, singing, language and music instruction – to inspire and nourish the mind.
• A full schedule of exhibitions – works by celebrated local and international artists and member shows of the Southampton Artist Association.
• Special events – including a free holiday festival in December, and a Black History Month celebration in February 2010 that will showcase literature, art and music from African American traditions.
With your help we will continue to provide affordable entrance fees that are much lower than many East End venues. We will continue to provide scholarships and tuition assistance for students in need. And we will continue to work toward meeting our community’s needs for cultural and arts programming.
Please take a moment and fill out and return the enclosed donation form today.
Thank you for supporting the arts in Southampton!
Sincerely,
Kirsten Lonnie
Executive Director

--------------------------------------------------------------
The Cultural Center’s 2008 season has been a great success due in large measure to a tradition of generous giving on the part of individuals like you. Please consider making a contribution to our annual campaign to ensure that culture and arts programming in our community will continue to thrive.
Thanks to your support, 2008 has been a banner year. Here are some of the highlights:
We are closing in on the end of the 23rd season of the Concerts in the Park series featuring live performances in Agawam Park and Coopers Beach – as always free of charge and great fun for all ages.
The Peconic Youth Orchestra received a generous grant which helped us to offer more affordable tuition and grow the program. We now have 65 students in the PYO under the direction of Kenneth Vignona, and chamber ensembles, field trips and performances provide these remarkably talented young musicians a rich educational experience. Check our schedule to see their next concert!
We now have Theater at the SCC and the critics love it. We partnered with Michael Disher and Lee Davis to put on The Fantasticks, Sam Shepard’s True West, and Merrily We Roll Along, featuring the music of Stephen Sondheim. All productions are staged by theater lovers who are driven to revitalize community theater on the East End.
The Rising Stars Piano Recital Series and the number of other classical performances have dramatically expanded.
A full schedule of exhibitions has featured the work of local artist Margaret Garrett, member shows of the Southampton Artist Association and other artists including Ken van Sickle, Elizabeth Holmes and Sheila Rotner.
Looking ahead to 2009 we have many exciting new things coming your way, and of course your old favorites will still be here. We will continue on to the 24th season of the summer Concerts in the Park, and we look forward to bringing you the 2nd season of Theater at the SCC. You won’t want to miss our upcoming Sondheim celebration and works by Alan Bennett and Larrie Shue.
Cultural Programs taught throughout the year will encompass music instruction, language programs, writing and photography workshops, acting and art classes, exhibitions and studio tours. We are also adding a special seminar for artists and our new RACE program, fun sessions for children to teach them to “Respect All Cultures Everywhere”.
Please join us in our mission to provide a place where all can benefit from the transforming touch of art. If you have donated to us in the past, thank you! We rely on the continued generosity of our donors to sustain and grow.
