Classes for Children and Teenagers

New for the Holidays: TV and Film Camp

This program has been postponed to 2010/2011.

Make Southampton Cultural Center your creative home for the holidays. Have fun while learning with NYC Emmy Nominated TV writer, director, producer Isabella Rupp. 8 – 13 year-olds will design and produce their own TV show-Webisode that will air upon completion.

Prepare to hit the ground running with day one’s production meeting culminating in a storyboard of campers’ original TV-Webisode vision. All students will rotate cast and crew positions and work collaboratively in groups in order to achieve their vision. During the five days of camp, students will have hands-on experience in all aspects of creating their own TV-Webisode and will write, produce, direct, film and appear in their own show.

Once camp is wrapped, Isabella will direct the post-production and oversee screening, logging, digitizing and editing of the class TV-Webisode. Cast and Crew Evites will be sent out announcing program air dates. All students will receive a DVD of their creation.

Camp consists of five ½ days and will run from Sunday December 27th thru Thursday December 31st,, 10AM – 1PM. Cost: $ 495 if registered by Dec. 10th, $ 525 thereafter.

Similar camps will be offered during the February and Spring brakes.

Peconic Youth Orchestra
September 2009 - June 2010
Thursdays 6:00 - 8:00 PM
A symphonic ensemble comprised of students from all areas of Eastern Suffolk. Players for the PYO must be in the sixth grade and playing NYSSMA Level 4 and above. Rehearsals begin September 30 and take place throughout the school calendar at the Southampton Cultural Center. The PYO performs several concerts throughout the year at different venues, including the Southampton Cultural Center and outdoors at Agawam Park. As part of the program the most motivated and dedicated players will be chosen to also practice as a chamber music ensemble immediately following regular rehearsals.

Prelude Ensemble
September 2009 - June 2010
Thursdays 4:30 - 5:30 PM
This group is targeted towards younger musicians early in their orchestral development. Students with basic sight reading abilities are welcome to take on the exciting challenges and rewards of playing in a string orchestra.

Acting Performance Technique
Dates: March 9, 16, 23, April 6; 4:30 - 7:30 PM
Michael Disher will teach a performance technique class (plays and musicals) for high school students this spring at Southampton Cultural Center. Mr. Disher will guide a select group of 16 student actors through the fundamentals required of most plays and musicals. The class is designed to improve performance, communication and verbal skills.

The cost of the class is $150.00.

This class is available to actors 16 through 19 years of age. Those interested should contact Mr. Disher (dishermichael@hotmail.com) or Ms. Kirsten Lonnie at the Southampton Cultural Center and request a brief information form.

The application must be returned (electronically is preferred) with each student actor's resume and headshot (or photograph), if available.

A class for adult actors is also being offered by Mr. Disher and Southampton Cultural Center.

Music Together By The Dunes
Early Childhood Music and Movement program for children newborn through age 5 and their parents or caregivers. A community of families sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting.

Music Together by the Dunes Center Director Ina Ferrara has lived in the area for 26 years and has been an integral part of the music community. She has been a soprano with the Choral Society of the Hamptons and served on its Board of Directors. She is a lead soprano and soloist with the St. Mark’s Church Choir in Westhampton Beach and holds a Masters Degree in Multimedia Elementary Education.

Thursdays at 10:15 and 11:15 AM, beginning October 1st.
Tuition: $175 for 10 sessions; $135 for sibling; infants under 6 months free in same class; tuition includes CD, song book and parent guide.
One-time registration fee $15 for new families.

Life Drawing and Portfolio Preparation
Mondays, 7:00-9:00 PM
The Southampton Cultural Center offers an Instructed Life Drawing and Portfolio Preparation Class for High School Juniors and Seniors. Classes will be taught by Linda Capello on Mondays from 7 - 9 PM. October - May.

Tuition: $60 for 4 classes. Drop ins acceptable ($15 per class).

Classes for Adults

Acting: Advanced Monologue Performance with Michael Disher
Dates: March 10, 17, 24, 31 6:30-9:30 PM
Michael Disher will teach an advanced monologue performance class this spring at Southampton Cultural Center. Mr. Disher will guide a select group of 16 actors with professional aspirations and intentions through a specific and detailed exploration of selection, interpretation, characterization, presentation and delivery required of monologues.

"This 12 hour workshop has been created to allow local actors the continued opportunity of working on established works in a purposeful and useful setting," Disher stated. "Many actors need and want monologue coaching for auditions. Understanding character development and the points of presentation required at auditions is crucial to an actor’s understanding and success." The cost of the 4 session, 12 hour workshop is $150.00.

This class, due to its content and nature, is available to actors 18 - 60 years of age. Those interested should contact Mr. Disher (dishermichael@hotmail.com) or Ms. Lonnie at the Southampton Cultural Center and request a brief informational form. The form should then be returned (electronically is preferred) with each actor's resume and headshot, if available. Applications should be returned promptly as spaces in this class are extremely limited.

Memoir Writing:Inventing the Truth
Writing your memoir is a gift to yourself, your loved ones and to history. Eileen Obser will help you focus on those parts of your life and experiences that you wish to capture and share. Memoirs that are making news will be discussed and helpful assignments provided. Learn how the fine line between memory and invention is meshed. Young and old memoirists are welcome.

So You've Always Wanted To Sing
A master class format designed to get singers of any level on their feet. Students enjoy a friendly and relaxed environment in which they are both audience and participants. Instructor Marianne Koerner puts emphasis on both breathing and performance technique. No audition required, but students must bring a song they want to sing at the first class. Ages 16 and up. Tuition $ 130.
